Press Release – Covid 19 Outbreak

Date – 17 Nov 2021

Everyone at East Cumberland Lodge would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of two of our residents who passed away this weekend. We share your grief and reaffirm our commitment to doing all we can to protect our most vulnerable. This marks the first passing of Covid positive residents in our facility.

Our priority continues to be providing the highest levels of care for our residents, while making sure our staff are safe. We continue to work closely with public health to take every precaution to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Monitoring for signs of Covid-related infections takes place daily and serial testing every 72 hours is conducted for both staff and residents based on the guidance of Public Health. We are working closely with Infection Prevention and Control as well as Public Health to ensure processes are firmly in place to support residents as they transition into the recovery stage of their illness. Additionally, our staff are putting in a resounding effort to provide emotional support to our residents during this challenging time away from their family and friends.

We continue to receive overwhelming support from the community. Numerous local businesses and individuals have offered us supplies, provided meals and treats to tired staff members, sent cards with well wishes and messages of encouragement, and offered assistance where and whenever possible. This has been invaluable to us during this difficult situation and we are so incredibly grateful. Our staff care deeply for our residents, and these acts of kindness hold a great deal of meaning to our ECL community.

Lastly, on behalf of myself and our Board of Directors I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank our tremendous group of staff. Their unwavering dedication to serving our residents and their community is exemplary. Throughout this ordeal they continue to wear a smile on their face, maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, and show unconditional compassion towards each other and those they serve. They embody the caring spirit – and for that, we are all so proud.

Sincerely,

Andrew Holland
